MANAGER’S REPORT
The first quarter was a good one and the second quarter seems to have been good as well considering that the end of the school year came during that time. The per day sales are running between $2200 and $2700 per day. For day to day running of the coop we need between $1800 and $1900 sales each day.
An unanticipated expense is coming up. In order to comply with the new data security standards for credit cards we need to have a certified outside auditor come in four times a year. This will cost &695. We also have to have both terminals replaced with new security software as well. Total cost of all will probably be around $2000. This must be done immediately. Any breach in security incident if we do not comply would cost us at least $65,000. We do have the money on hand to do this. Frontier Herb has recently paid us some deferred patronage so that will help pay this unanticipated expense.
Since Kombucha tea contains alcohol due to the fermentation process used in its production, it is subject to higher scrutiny than many other food products. We have been selling it, and it has been a good seller. However, spot checks in other venues have shown that fermentation can continue after bottling so we might not be able to sell it without a liquor license. We have taken the remainder of our stock off the shelves. We are waiting for the producer of our kombucha to resolve the issue with the appropriate regulating agencies before revisiting the issue.
The Alternative Energy Fair is August 7, 8. The Outreach Committee had decided not to have a booth there this year but James received a call requesting that we reconsider. Right now there do not seem to be enough volunteers to staff the booth. James and Ruback will continue to work on this, but will not comply with the request if more volunteers cannot be found.
NEW BUSINESS
The person requesting help starting a new cooperative in the Chicago area will be directed to appropriate organizations such as the Center for Cooperatives at the University of Wisconsin. Kurylo and James will work on responses.
The Outreach Committee reported that James represented us at the Bike Rally. Ruback will continue to try to contact all who had said they would be willing to volunteer for activities. A gluten free tasting may be held in the fall.
The Rockford Register-Star may be a new outreach via a healthy cooking show online.
A vegan theme was suggested for the next newsletter
An opportunity for working with Jo Cessna and her cooking classes has been suggested.
Mary Petruchius volunteered to serve on the Personnel and Outreach committees.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:41 pm.
The next meeting will be July 16 at 6:30 pm.
Ruth Peterson, Secretary
